I’m especially impressed with the way episode 4 ends: a magical sequence of two youngsters who are different as day and night, racing the roads under the city lights of Tokyo. It keeps you on your toes and the story it spins is too enticing to ignore and so you’re always left wanting for more.įour episodes in, the fragments are still scattered and being tied together rather leisurely but that’s not to say that the ride isn’t exciting. It’s what you’d call an “intelligent show”.

What’s really great about this show is how it blends varying perspectives, seamlessly ties it together and stimulates your grey matter. It’s a wonder that the pacing is this smooth but maybe not very surprising given the director’s track record (Cowboy Bebop, Ergo Proxy, Samurai Champloo, Sakamichi no Apollon and oh the list goes on).

I’m wondering how it will play out given that it’s scheduled for only 11 episodes.

Mesmerizing scenes, spot on voice acting, fitting music and sharp direction with an eye for detail: this series has it all. Everybody had high expectations for this series with these extremely talented people on board and I must say, it delivers and how! Let me give you two reasons to watch this: Watanabe Shinichiro and Kanno Yoko. I personally love the ending theme: it’s sinister and unique.

The action is not the only noteworthy achievement on the show there are many different characters involved and each of them are different and unique, so the story gets told from different perspectives, subtly changing our own preconceptions.Ī highlight of this summer season is that it’s full of shows with original and captivating opening and ending themes where Tokyo Ghoul’s no exception. His relationships change drastically and yet the series shows us how there’s peace in chaos and chaos in peace.Įach episode has its highs and lows, and the differences in the moods can be a bit jarring but if you can stomach such turbulence, you’ll find that this is a welcome change from several other shallow series out there which simply exist to be controversial or bloody for the sake of it (I’m glaring at you Blood C). The protagonist finds his life overturned, no longer the person he used to be and his life rapidly changes as he has to face the bloody reality of being half ghoul. I personally feel the anime as of now is riding high on the action and tension given its premise. Miyano Mamoru is a busy guy as usual and his performance as a twisted ghoul in this show is different but no less amazing than Joker in Kuroshitsuji. Plenty of gore, ruthless killing and drama, it’s not my favourite kind of anime but I find myself enjoying it more than I expected myself to. Unfortunately I have terrible memory so I don’t completely remember Shiki as I watched it when it aired but this series really reminded me of it. So do make sure you check this show out for your weekly dose of beautiful visuals, the demonic butler (and his love for felines) and the bone chilling progression of the story.īring Shiki out to Tokyo, replace Vampires with flesh-eating Ghouls and you get Tokyo Ghoul. I would suggest reading some of the manga first to get a better understanding of the premise and I assure you it will be an enjoyable read regardless of your age, gender or preferences. This is what Kuroshitsuji really is, this is what the anime was meant to be and this is what you shouldn’t miss out on. Not just him, the entire voice cast is outstanding and has more than a few of my favorites. The second season deviated from the original series by a large margin and for me that was a deal breaker with the Kuroshitsuji anime at least.įortunately, we’re now back on track with this arc and it has stunning visuals, bulls-eye execution and direction and Miyano Mamoru playing Joker is cherry on the cake. This new season adapts the Circus Arc: one of the most intriguing and also popular set of chapters from the manga with a new director at the helm who keeps it faithful to the source material. In reality though, it is a rewarding series and will make you come back for more. There’s a misconception that this series is BL (Boys’ Love) and after the appalling second season, I can’t blame anybody who wants to stay away from this show.

The concept is rather original in the manga world and superbly executed in terms of art and mystique. Here’s my list:įinally, the Circus arc! I’m a big fan of Yana Toboso’s Victorian-Age Fantasy manga Kuroshitsuji ie. With each series having four or five episodes out, it’s time to decide what you want to keep watching and what you want to drop. Hi everyone! We’re a month into the summer anime season this year and while I’m not following all the series that are airing, I do feel that the ones I am watching are pretty solid and high quality stuff that I’d like to recommend to y’all.
